 It matches the backpack and again made by Tom Binns. It has two compartments here and the first one I just put in my passport and then the second one I can put in like some extra money or just like a credit card or any like important papers, it's not too big, but it works really. Well. I also have my USB stick that I put right in here and everything's protected and I know nothing's going to damage my passport because it's it's very well made and just not going to rip or anything like that and again

 The one thing that I wish that was a little bit different is the back of the backpack. The chefs are nice when you don't have like a ton of weight in there, but if you do have a lot of weight like I carry so much in there are times that I wish there was a little bit more comfort. There'S a stress here. That goes around, like you can tie around your waist when you have a lot of weight on there, but it's still, maybe not enough that I was showing a little bit more support, maybe in the back or the strap a little bit bigger to keep taking some Of the weight off of the shoulders when I'm carrying it other than that yeah, it's a great backpack Tom Binns, actually a really cool company

 As you can see here, it is quite deep and it has a pouch right here for where you can put your laptop or books or for anything that just heavy. You can just slide right into this pouch right here. So then you have the rest of the compartment down there, where I fit most of my clothes and other items like textbooks or things like that in there, and then you have a big pocket right here, which you can set a water bottle into or anything that's Really long and heavy and just need to be centered in the backpack to distribute the weight evenly then smaller pulse right here, where you can fit just like headphones in or like your wallet or maybe your phone, it's not too big and then on each side of The backpack it has a zipper coming down here for another compartment and you can store just like longer things in here as well. It'S quite big spacious and it doesn't take up any of the space from like the middle or the other compartments in the backpack either, and it has like a little pouch here to put some small things in and then same thing on the other side, it has A zipper down, and then it has like four pens or pencils or anything like chopsticks

A hip belt is a must-have for me; I'm small & tend to having back problems anyway, so I need it to help take more weight on my legs. (No, it's not solely a matter of packing less -- even with my quite light & small EDC, I need to use the hip belt or my back will tell me off..

I like compression straps because I do travel on budget airlines, but also... I dunno, something about making my bag *that much smaller* is pleasing to my brain somehow?! Maybe I just like the physical act of pulling the straps, lol

As someone who travels frequently (or at least used to) for both business and vacation, I obsess over optimizing my packing system. After far too many Pack Hacker and Chase Reeves backpack vids, I've come to realize that there are some features I love, some that I actively dislike, and some that I don't really care about.

After [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/onebag/comments/kpj36h/are_travel_pack_2_small_vs_travel_pack_2/) conversation on shoe compartments, I became curious how closely my list compares to everyone else's here. Agree? Disagree? Have your own list? Look forward to discussing!

**Love 'em:**

* **Good exterior water bottle pockets** \- I'm constantly drinking water or coffee or both. I like having those bottles at the ready without digging through my bag, and without worrying about spills and drips.
* **3D pockets** \- As the bag starts filling up, flat pockets become less and less usable. The big interior zip pocket on my GR2 is one of my favorite features. 
* **Clamshell opening** \- Frees up the bottom of the bag to be usable space for on-the-go items.
* **Matte fabrics** \- Love the classic look that doesn't scream out "I'M CARRYING EXPENSIVE STUFF!"
* **Packing cube compatibility** \- While any bag Is technically compatible, I'd prefer to have my cubes align with the interior dimensions so they fit nicely without awkward little gaps or the need to stuff them in.

**Leave 'em:**

* **Expansion** \- If I wanted a bigger bag, I'd buy one. To me, expansion features are just extra fabric and zips that add unnecessary weight. 
* **Compression** \- Most compression features just seem to make it more annoying to access the pack. I get the argument for "securing the load", but I'm typically not wearing it long enough to make a difference. When under-packed, a big compressed bag looks more like an awkwardly smooshed down big bag, rather than a big bag that magically transformed into a smaller bag. 
* **Shoe compartments** \- Extra fabric, weight, and volume for something that's not always needed. If I'm packing shoes, my size 13's typically need to go in vertically anyway. I'd rather have the flexibility of a separate shoe bag.
* **Branding** \- Looking at you, Osprey and Patagonia. I'd rather have nothing, or something small and tasteful. Tortuga does this well. 
* **Hip belts,  sternum straps, and load lifters** \- For a hiking pack, they can be essential. For my travel style, they just get in the way and add weight. My GR2 is perfectly comfortable without any of these. 
* **D-rings/Daisy chains/MOLLE/Ice axe loops** \- I'm not hiking or cosplaying a soldier or mountaineer. Maybe one or two attachment points would be a helpful for something that accidentally got muddy, but I'd rather have all that stuff stripped off.
* **Morale patch velcro** \- It's either a bumper sticker for your backpack, or a big ugly naked velcro patch. Most morale patches available are military/gun oriented. I thought I was being tasteful by picking a neutral blank leather patch for my GR2, but then realized it could be perceived as a slap in the face to vegans. 
* **Shiny fabrics** \- Typically associate with weather resistance (good!), but I strongly dislike the look.

**Take it or leave it:**

* **False bottom for laptop** \- If the bag is packed is packed enough for a false bottom to make a difference, it typically suspends the laptop naturally anyway. If I plan to use a packable daypack, I'm carrying a separate protective sleeve anyway.
* S**tow-able shoulder straps** \- Convenient for boarding planes and trains, but often comes at a compromise for weight and better comfort.

In addition to personal preference, I know that this sub has a pretty big diversity of travel styles/durations. For reference, here's how I traveled in the before-times:

* One week business trip every month or two (flights)
   * May or may not require a suit + dress shoes
   * Business casual mostly okay, but no techy/travel clothes that "you can totally wear to the office!" Good wool dress pants, on the other hand, travel very well.
   * Bulky Dell laptop + power brick (looking to see if I can switch to XPS13)
   * Mostly traveling within US at nice-ish hotels
* One or two week vacation with my wife every 6-ish months (mostly flights, some drives), sometimes internationally.
   * Upscale hotels
   * Typically a nice dinner or two. Again, "you can totally wear it to a nice dinner!" techy/travel clothes usually aren't great for this.
   * Wife has a disability that can prevent her from standing up for more than a few minutes at a time (some days are better than others). I'm usually carrying her stuff + my stuff + pushing her wheelchair if needed.
* I'm not hiking with my full pack. At most I'm walking around an airport or city for no more than an hour or two at a time fully-loaded.
* Generally not traveling on European budget airlines where weight restrictions are an issue.
* Especially on vacation, I love taking pictures with my DSLR + lenses. Phones are catching up quickly, but they're not quite at the level where they could capture the magic of some of my favorite shots.
* As a larger male in decent shape, bag weight/comfort aren't huge factors for me, but I would like to keep things relatively compact. My size 13 shoes typically mean that I'm traveling in dress shoes and packing minimal sneakers or sandals.

EDIT: Per request, here&#39;s my current bag list:

<li>Peak Design Travel Pack (30L - 45L) - Mostly used on vacation. It carries a lot of stuff very well (handles my wife&#39;s overflow :-D), and the camera cube is fantastic for keeping my DSLR well-protected. The packing system and accessories are top-notch (medium packing cube + small camera cube + tech pouch). Straps are slightly uncomfortable, but it&#39;s not a huge deal for me. In an ideal v2, I&#39;d get rid of the hip belt, trade stow-able straps for more comfortable straps, and lose the expansion/compression features entirely. I&#39;d also have separate access to the laptop compartment (can be really annoying when the bag is loaded up).</li>
<li>GoRuck GR2 (34L) - Recently picked this up at a huge discount ($250 new) for solo/business trips, but haven&#39;t had the chance to try it out for real yet. Looks and feels much smaller than the PD pack, even though it can still carry a lot. Even with the MOLLE and morale patch (which I strongly dislike), it has a more low-profile look due to the shape, the way it carries, and the matte finish. I did have to buy a separate MOLLE water bottle pouch, which wasn&#39;t ideal. All that said, the pack is super comfy with just the shoulder straps. I love the big main compartment and the separate secondary compartment with it&#39;s own volume. There&#39;s also a weird psychological confidence with just knowing that the pack is totally bombproof, and not worrying about babying it in any way. Despite the military-ish look, it subdued enough that I wouldn&#39;t hesitate to bring it into the office when I travel.</li>
<li>Topo Core Pack (25L) - For EDC and solo leisure trips with no dress code concerns. Great little bag, and less than 2 lbs. without the waist belt and sternum strap (which are super easy to remove!). The last time I used it, it was small enough to count as a &quot;personal item&quot; on Spirit (US budget airline), which saved me like $70ish on round-trip carry-on fees. That alone paid for the bag itself. It&#39;s very well made with similar 1000D fabric as the GR2, and big chonky YKK zips. Perfectly handles PD&#39;s medium packing cube with room to spare. Water bottle pockets are very well done. I do dislike the huge white logo patch, but I just ordered a seam ripper to take it off. I&#39;m also hoping I can get rid of the ice axe loops without doing too much damage.</li>
<li>Matador On-Grid Packable Backpack (16L) - Another new one for me (Black Friday purchase). I hadn&#39;t yet found a laptop-compatible packable backpack that I love, but I have a good feeling this could be the one. While shiny (which I hate), the fabric isn&#39;t as crinkly as many others in the ~0.5 lbs. category. The 100D fabric also feels like it has more structure than most, and actually carries a laptop very well. Water bottle pockets are great for a bag of this size. It is a huge step up from the Tortuga Setout Packable Daypack that it replaces.</li>
</ul>

Backpack Features: Love 'em or Leave 'em?

5' here as well. Even normal womens' backpacks (and pants) don't account for people on the shorter end of the height range, so those options might still not be great. 

* Osprey Talon/Tempest 22/20, with the adjustable strap panel moved as deep as possible, lower than the recommended notch. 

* Patagonia Black Hole Duffel 40. Weirdly enough, since the top cover is smaller than the footprint of the bag, this is a very comfortable backpack. The actual volume is likely around the 30-35L range, as my old Black Hole Duffel 45, fully packed, could fit *INSIDE* another 45L backpack. Comfortably

I'm trying to find a backpack I can travel for work with (so from the UK abroad) for a week or so at a time. I travel pretty light and detest carrying more than one bag or having stuff that can't just count as carry-on. 

I've looked at Peak Design and Pakt bags, but being a 5 foot tall women, they're just too big for my torso.

Has anyone else had this problem and managed to solve it? 

I'd like to find a bag with 30-40l capacity, a water bottle side pocket, an outside pocket (or two) and reasonable straps. I'd like it to last so money isn't too much of a problem. I feel like I've spent days looking over the internet and found nothing.

I&#39;d like to find a bag with 30-40l capacity, a water bottle side pocket, an outside pocket (or two) and reasonable straps. I&#39;d like it to last so money isn&#39;t too much of a problem. I feel like I&#39;ve spent days looking over the internet and found nothing.

Travel Backpacks For Short Women?

-	I love this harness on this size of bag, but the CPL24 harness is by far the more comfortable of the two. 

 That frees up a lot of space at the top of the bag. With the almost clamshell zipper, it’s easy to get those pouches in and out. 

The CPL24 is still the undisputed champ, but it’s a lot of bag to carry when I just need some tech stuff, some daily stuff, water, coffee, and lunch. I have been looking for a bag for commutes that I could carry a laptop in if necessary, but that doesn’t devote a massive amount of space and material to the laptop. I’ve tried a Rucker 3.0 and Tom Bihn Synapse 19, but neither really hit the nail on the head

 They are sewn too closely together, are too slippery, and cut into my shoulders after an hour or so. As a park pack with my family with just water, snacks, 1st Aid, and jackets, it’s no problem, but add the laptop and the tech stuff that goes with it, and it gets very uncomfortable very quickly. It also rides too low on my back when heavy. Strap comfort is a very personal thing, and I know people that rave about the TB straps, so this is just my experience

 Should be able to fit it in a carry-on because the shorter torso length drops it down to ~21" tall, and you can take off the hip belt completely to save weight+bulk on lighter trips. Downside is that it's roll-top so access is more difficult, and it lacks organization features aside from stretch pockets. 

* Patagonia Black Hole 45/40L. Somehow this was comfier than the others, likely because the top surface (the surface against your back) didn't press into my butt. Basically no organization, but it's the "haul lots of shit" option.

I prefer rocking two-bag with a shoulder bag or sling if I'm need more than 25L of stuff and I'm not hiking. This is usually when I'm going to a convention and am schlepping an extra 5-10 pounds of gear. Something is going overhead regardless, and I have underseat space because my feet don't need all of it. Why stuff everything into the overhead bag when I can pack it less full (or use a smaller bag) and use my personal bag allowance?

For what it's worth, my torso length is closer to 15", which makes sense because I find most 17" torso backpacks to be too tall. 16.5" means most hiking backpacks in Small would fit you decently well, a lot of men's stuff starts at 17" or so and the women's stuff is 16". All of the hiking bags I mention here are adjustable to "very short" so quibbling about the specifics doesn't matter though

Hello fellow short travellers, I am looking for a one bag travel pack that would serve me for day trips to month long backpacking trips. I want a bag that would fit well on my back and has lots of storage space, but not something that ends up being too long or too heavy as I am only 5ft tall and don't have a very long torso.  Any recommendations?

- Exterior water bottle pocket with a bungee or tightening strap to ensure my bottle doesn't slide out under the plane seat or when bending over

Searching for an airline-personal-item-sized backpack for travel and day hikes. Flying and going on vacation this summer for the first time in 5 years and realized I hate the [backpack]([URL REMOVED] I used to use for travel. It looks ginormous on me, the back padding is too thick, the front pockets cause the entire front of the bag to fall down when accessing the larger compartment, stuff tends to get lost at the bottom of the bag and is hard to get out, my water bottle easily slides out of the water bottle pockets when the bag goes under the plane seat, and I'm just over it.

- NO dedicated laptop padding or pocket (a thin stretch pocket in the main compartment is fine, but no added bulk for a laptop I won't be carrying)

After loads of research, I bought a used Tom Bihn Synapse 19 and quickly realized I wanted something a little larger. Bought a new Synapse 25 and realized that I'm not the biggest fan of the internal bottle pocket, would also like to have some sort of stuff pocket/beaver tail for a jacket/travel pillow, and that the bag looked too tall for my frame.

 The first one is a very small compartment and inside it, houses a key leash, which you can just attach your keys to a good way. They just keep them secure and always know where they are. This compartment goes to about this much of the size, so you'd probably can't fit a whole lot in here. Maybe some Bluetooth, wireless earphones or some snack bars, but yet not a whole lot of space that you have in this compartment now

 This compartment also features a padded tablet sleeve. So you can put in most large tablets inside here. At the moment I just have a little notebook inside, but it has this fleece lining inside which is padded and feels very soft to the touch that will do well to protect your screens. Combine that with the back panel padding it'll do well to protect your device, but this compartment is fairly large

 On the front of the bag, we have these two compression straps that are also accessory straps. If you have larger items of gear, you could put them inside here and just cinch them down whether that's a yoga mat or a large jacket. I'Ve seen some people with larger bottles, put them upside down and then just cinch them tight. So you have those options as well, but if you have a lot of gear in here and as you're moving, you don't want things jingling around as you move, then you can just secure all that load by compressing the bag

 In that way, you have everything nice and tight nice and secure. You also have this elastic webbing to tidy up the straps slack if it gets a bit too long. So you have that option as well and also these buckle. Clasps are really easy to open and close

A Classic Take-Everywhere Bag - The Patagonia Atom Sling

Rather than the Patagonia Atom sling, I would recommend getting a packable backpack that you can toss in your rucksack while you are travelling. I used to have a cheap Chinese one, which worked ok, but then broke after a couple of years, and I upgraded to a 16L Matador backpack, which while expensive is really great for day-to-day use, tough-as-nails, and completely waterproof. 

Hi all! I am new to the One Bag community but have always been a very light packer so I'd love to do away with luggage and pick up a backpack. The trick is figuring out which one is the right one!

I - theoretically - have a 2.5 week trip to Ireland and Scotland in May 2021 (we'll see if that happens). Clearly, I have time to plan but I'm trying to figure out which bag to pick up and do some test runs and get used to it. I will be mainly staying in hostels, possibly some Air BNBs, and intend to do laundry throughout my trip. My pack list for my bag is:

- 2x merino tees
- 1x merino sweater
- 1x raincoat (packs down quite a bit but will probably worn a lot of the time)
- 4x merino socks
- 3x leggings
- 1x dress or jeans (can't decide which)
- 4x underwear
- 1x bra
- 1x pajamas (probably something like Uniqlo Heat Tech shirt + leggings)
- a regular size dopp kit (folding brush, a tin for solid soap, toothbrush, mascara, deodorant, etc.)
- airpods and wired earbuds
- a few charging cables
- flip flops

I'll be wearing a Patagonia Atom sling to carry my daily essentials (passport, wallet, phone, headphones, etc.)

My "wishes" for the bag I buy:
- somewhat minimalist
- clamshell/suitcase opening
- water bottle pocket
- sternum strap
- under $250
- to not totally overwhelm my frame (5'5", female)

I am a bit overwhelmed with what size backpack to purchase. Right now I'm eyeing *Evergoods CPL24* (or 28, maybe...) and the *PacSafe Vibe 28L*. I love the look of *Aer* bags as well as *Heimplanet*. I would ideally love to get the first purchase right (who wouldn't!), so I'm hoping that some of you could advise on which bag (or at least which size) makes the most sense as you all have so much more experience than I do!

New-ish to Onebag; 2.5 week trip to Ireland/Scotland next year and trying to determine which bag is the right bag!

But since this is manybaggers reddit :) . When I am at work especially during hot weather, I like to go for walks but HATE things in my pockets (especially in work clothes). So I bought the bellboy sling 7l because I wanted a bag I can keep at my desk that I can use everyday to carry my items (since I will come to work with a messenger bag to carry my machine). If its windy (from Chicago) I can pack a wind breaker into it, or carry a rain coat if I think it might rain at some point in my walk 

What do you guys think of the Bellroy Sling 7L? I current have The North Face Lumbar pack and the straps dangle and annoy me. I was thinking of getting something with the nice aesthetic of the Bellroy Sling but with similar inner pockets and organization of the Art Day Sling 2. Do you guys have recommendations or thoughts on the Bellroy Sling?

Bellroy Sling 7L

  On one side I have my larger 1.5L bottle nestled in the 750ml pot, the other side I have my 1L squirt top bottle(s).  In the pocket above I stick my first aid kit.  The top depending on how the bag is packed can trap down my sleeping pad (otherwise I use a strap system), the hip belt is big but I feel its just right for what I like to keep in it

* 5.11 Moab 6 - this thing is ridiculous.  It cuts the size of the 10 down in half, but then it hangs off you like a giant box.   Regretted this purchase
