Strap

Tortuga Setout

(1/4)

The shoulder straps are made of a rigid foam that’ll get more comfortable with wear as they mold to your specific body.

Been a fan of Tortuga Backpacks for several years now, I’ve bought a couple of their products myself and had several other friends and family buy them based on my recommendations. After roughly 5 years using the same pack the shoulder strap started to rip on my bag, I ended up emailing them to see if they were able to repair it for me. Their response was quick and though the bag that I had was no longer in production they were able to help me out and gave me a bit toward a new pack! Not what I expected at all. Solid products, and even better customer service! Worth the cost!

Compartment

Tortuga Setout

A water bottle pocket. We’re huge fans of water—everyone should be!—so we’re glad that the Setout has a nice place to put a water bottle or thermos. The elastic on the top can make it challenging to squeeze bigger water bottles inside the pocket, but it holds them securely, which we think is a good trade-off.

Tortuga says this is to help you keep your clean and dirty clothes separated. You could also just use these two compartments as a way to separate different kinds of clothes for example, packing cubes in the main compartment and then pants and packing folders in the other compartment.

I spent months researching for a backpack for my 3-week trip to South America. I have back pain and hate backpacks but knew it was the best solution for my carry-on and travel during my trip. I had three criteria: look good (top! so no elastic things, no bright colours, no netting, no big bold brand names), comfortable, and practical (i.e

Laptop

Tortuga Setout

Laptop Size: 15” Tortuga has been around since 2010 after their founders had a terrible experience traveling in Europe with standard backpacking backpacks meant for camping and mountaineering. They couldn’t find the perfect travel bag, so they made one. Since then Tortuga has created a small but mighty line of great travel and commuter bags. The Tortuga Setout is an award-winning pack in their travel backpacks collection

The only downside I see, is that the laptop in the front zipper pocket should unzip almost the whole way to be more usable or flip open during TSA bag assessment.

Carry-on

Tortuga Setout

4 lbs, the Tortuga Setout is also quite light for a durable globe-trotting carry on.  Tortuga only makes one bag travel and commuter bags, so they can concentrate all of their energy on making them world-class. The design and build of the Setout shows how proficient they have become in this pursuit since 2010. From the 3 main storage compartments for laptops, clothing, and small items, to the sleek and minimalistic design, there is little to complain about in the Setout

I'm carrying my "personal office" of laptop/folders/notebooks/tablet/noise-canceling headphones/power adapters & cables. Plus clothes running the range from "I'm a (comfortable) bum" to "appropriately dressed to meet the CTO." Using a quality backpack makes flying and urban train travel a delight. Added benefit, after you reach your destination, unpack your Setout Divide completely and then use it for your day-to-day carrying needs

Size

Tortuga Setout

The company markets the Tortuga Setout as a full-sized carry-on backpack. I’d say that at 45 liters, carry-on specifications are pushed to their limit, but the Tortuga Setout passes as a carry-on because it is not overly tall. (In fact, my 38-liter Gregory backpack is taller than the Tortuga Setout.)The squarish shape of the backpack makes it acceptable as a carry-on

Love the Set-out bag, my favorite feature is definitely the size, it's an in-between of the everyday and larger travel bag. In my opinion though, a little too big for everyday, but perfect for easy travel on the 4-6 day trips, or even longer. The waist attachments I don't find necessary personally, but I do love the expandable zip feature. It also has great zippers and the durable handles are a plus! Well done
