Strap

Tortuga Setout

(1/4)

The shoulder straps are made of a rigid foam that’ll get more comfortable with wear as they mold to your specific body.

They have pockets in them. They'Re made from nice things if you're doing like around the world, maybe you want to bring the hip strap thing, but part of the single bag travel thing for me is is a: is it kind of heading towards a more minimal way of travel and nothing says Unwinnable like a hip, strap, so the shoulder straps, I think, are really really nice when you're carrying a bunch of big stuff, my one drawback on this bag. Is it as bulky as I'll get out. It's a big bag

Compartment

Tortuga Setout

A water bottle pocket. We’re huge fans of water—everyone should be!—so we’re glad that the Setout has a nice place to put a water bottle or thermos. The elastic on the top can make it challenging to squeeze bigger water bottles inside the pocket, but it holds them securely, which we think is a good trade-off.

I knew exactly where everything was because of the various compartments. I loved the fact that the zippers had small holes just for the locks.

Laptop

Tortuga Setout

(1/2)

Laptop Size: 15” Tortuga has been around since 2010 after their founders had a terrible experience traveling in Europe with standard backpacking backpacks meant for camping and mountaineering. They couldn’t find the perfect travel bag, so they made one. Since then Tortuga has created a small but mighty line of great travel and commuter bags. The Tortuga Setout is an award-winning pack in their travel backpacks collection

The laptop/technology compartment is at the back of the Outbreaker. The compartment can be partially unzipped for easy access to the contents inside. It can also be completely unzipped, allowing it to lie flat for easy loading. The lay-flat design also should allow you to send your laptop through airport security without having to remove it

Carry-on

Tortuga Setout

(1/12)

4 lbs, the Tortuga Setout is also quite light for a durable globe-trotting carry on.  Tortuga only makes one bag travel and commuter bags, so they can concentrate all of their energy on making them world-class. The design and build of the Setout shows how proficient they have become in this pursuit since 2010. From the 3 main storage compartments for laptops, clothing, and small items, to the sleek and minimalistic design, there is little to complain about in the Setout

This is an amazing bag and worth every penny you spend on it and I would purchase it over and over again. Average carry weight I hold is around 20-25kg in it (shhh - just don't tell the airlines) and still it is in the great condition I have mentioned. Thanks Tortuga for a great bag! #highlyrecommended

Size

Tortuga Setout

(1/3)

The company markets the Tortuga Setout as a full-sized carry-on backpack. I’d say that at 45 liters, carry-on specifications are pushed to their limit, but the Tortuga Setout passes as a carry-on because it is not overly tall. (In fact, my 38-liter Gregory backpack is taller than the Tortuga Setout.)The squarish shape of the backpack makes it acceptable as a carry-on

If you are the kind of traveler who likes a little compartment and nook and cranny and pocket for every single last thing that you travel with the Tortuga out, breaker is going to be your organizational masterpiece. On the flip side, let's talk about some of the cons of the Tortuga breaker con number one size. Not only is this thing, 45 litres or Spain's it's huge, but it also has that rec T linear shape, and it's just absolutely massive. That means that if you're looking for an ultra minimalist, backpack or even a day pack, this is far and away the last thing that you want in your arsenal, if you're looking for something a little bit more minimalist or a little smaller stay tuned for the next Section where I'll talk about alternative bag recommendations, con number two is gon na kind of go hand-in-hand with the size is the weight of the Tortuga out breaker

Hiking

Tortuga Setout

(1/3)

Purchased the 45L Setout Backpack for my South West hiking trip. Was the perfect size for all my gear for my 6 day trip. Ample pockets, sturdy, and comfortable straps. Was able to move through airport crowds at ease and remove my laptop and electronics easily at TSA check in

What is usually a fun rock hop across a pretty babbling brook was an angry torrent of white water and hate. Luckily there was a fordable section just upstream. Eventually we make it back to the closest trailhead for pick up, and I opened my bag, praying against absolution, for a dry T shirt. Lo and behold! The entirety of my personal bags contents were as dry as they were when we left! The work we do is the ultimate stress test on gear, even the highest quality rarely survives a year with the amount of hours we put in the field

Lots of pockets to keep things separate. The straps stow nicely away. Good zippers. Nice durable pack

At the end of my trip, after abusing the durable zippers of the main compartment, one of the handles broke off. I contacted customer support and they were very responsive and sent me multiple zipper tabs to replace the handle.

Commute

Tortuga Setout

(1/1)

I wore the pack a fair bit, as I had multiple ferries to get off and on, with long terminal walks, as well as four flights. Others with roll bags were envious. 3. I used three packing cubes from Shacke Pac, plus an Eagle Creek garment folder for shirts, two pairs of trousers, and two cocktail dresses--all fitted perfectly--and I over packed
