Never had one, but I will suggest the Evergoods CHZ 26 for the active/EDC/weekender (I have the CPL 24 V2 but it doesn't have water bottle pockets)). It's in the same price range as the MR UA24, and it looks like it addresses all your requirements

Love Thule products and I am the type of person that buys a better quality and sticks to them for a while. Strong and sturdy, but light. The only downside are small random orange marks that appear here and there on the front. I

I sent the CPL28 back because the CHZ26 actually felt like it had more room and I liked the top flap of the bag for EDC. The chz is almost perfect for me, if it just had a external access for the laptop/ipad compartment, but it isn't a deal breaker for me. I am 6'3" and haven't noticed any issues with the bag on my back, but I have not packed it completely loaded out with a laptop, just an ipad.
